Terms and Conditions

This translation is provided for convenience. The German version of this page is legally binding.

1. Scope and provider

1.1 These terms apply to all contracts for services you order through the AltBild website.

1.2 Your contracting party is sole proprietor (FOP) Dmytro Kovalchuk, vul. Bohdana Khmelnytskoho 13, Bronnyky, Rivne Oblast, Ukraine, email: [email protected] ("we"). Further details are in the Legal Notice.

1.3 Deviating terms of the customer do not apply unless we expressly agree to them.

2. Services

2.1 We work on digital copies of old photos that you upload:

  • Restoration: removing scratches, creases, stains, tears and fading; correcting contrast and sharpness.
  • Colourisation: colouring a black-and-white photo in natural colours appropriate to its time.
  • Animation: a short video (up to 6 seconds) in which the photo comes to life.

2.2 Every photo is worked on by hand by our restorer. We also use software and AI tools.

2.3 Colourisation is an expert reconstruction. The actual colours of the time are usually unknown; we choose plausible colours but cannot guarantee that they match the originals. If you know particular colours (e.g. eye or clothing colour), please tell us.

2.4 We only fill in missing parts of an image where they can be reconstructed from the photo itself (e.g. from the symmetrical side). We do not invent facial features. How well a photo can be restored depends on its condition and the quality of your picture of it.

2.5 You receive digital files. You do not send us original photos; they stay with you.

3. Ordering and conclusion of contract

3.1 The presentation of services on the website is not a binding offer.

3.2 You upload your photos, choose the services for each photo and see the total price. By clicking the payment button you make a binding offer. Before that, you can check and change your details at any time.

3.3 The contract is concluded when we confirm receipt of the advance payment by email.

3.4 Photos that our automatic check classifies as severely damaged stay in the order but are not charged at first. We review them by hand and send you a separate offer by email. A contract for these photos is only concluded once you accept that offer.

3.5 The contract languages are German, Ukrainian and English. We do not store the contract text separately; you can see your order details in your account and these terms on this page at any time.

4. Customer account

To place an order we create an account for your email address. You sign in with a link or code that we send to your email address; there is no password. Keep access to your mailbox secure.

5. Prices and payment

5.1 The prices shown to you before ordering apply. All prices are final prices in euros. As a sole proprietor based in Ukraine, we do not charge VAT.

5.2 From 3 photos, colourising one photo is free, and from 6 photos colourising two photos is free, each including its animation. Volume discounts are shown during ordering.

5.3 When ordering, you pay an advance of 25% of the total price. You pay the remainder after receiving the preview (section 6).

5.4 Payment methods: credit or debit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay via the payment provider WayForPay and, where offered, bank transfer. Card details are processed only by the payment provider.

6. Process, preview and revisions

6.1 We start work once the advance has been received and you have requested that we start before the withdrawal period ends.

6.2 The preview is usually ready within 3 to 5 working days. With many or badly damaged photos it may take longer; we will let you know.

6.3 We provide the preview in your account with a watermark or at reduced size.

6.4 One round of revisions is included in the price. Please send us your change requests for the preview together. Further revision rounds or changes beyond the original order (e.g. new photos) are agreed separately.

6.5 If you are still not happy with the result after the revision round, you may reject it. In that case no further payment is due and we refund the advance. You do not receive full-quality files in this case.

6.6 After paying the remainder, the finished files in full quality are available for download in your account. The remaining payment is due as soon as you approve the preview, and at the latest 14 days after receiving it, unless you have requested a revision or rejected the result by then.

7. Gift voucher

You can place an order as a gift. You receive a printable voucher after the advance payment. You remain the contracting party and the person liable to pay.

8. Your rights to the photos

8.1 You confirm that you are entitled to have the uploaded photos edited and that this does not infringe any third-party rights (in particular copyright and personality rights).

8.2 We use your photos and the results only to carry out your order. We show them as examples on the website or the YouTube channel only with your separate consent.

8.3 Once paid in full, you receive a non-exclusive, perpetual right to use the finished files privately, including printing, sharing with family and friends and posting on social networks.

9. Right of withdrawal

Consumers have a statutory right of withdrawal. Details are on the Right of Withdrawal page.

10. Warranty

Statutory rights for defects apply. Please report defects in the preview within the revision round where possible.

11. Liability

11.1 We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under mandatory statutory provisions.

11.2 For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of an essential contractual obligation, the fulfilment of which makes proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on which you may regularly rely, limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract.

11.3 Please keep your own pictures of the photos. We store uploaded files only for the period stated in the Privacy Policy.

12. Final provisions

12.1 Ukrainian law applies. If the customer is a consumer, they retain the protection of the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which they have their habitual residence.

12.2 We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

12.3 If any provision of these terms is invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
